Buying your auto parts online or locally

It is not unusual to have to replace certain parts in your car after a certain mileage. And often each driver is facing a tough choice – is it worth it to try and save or is it better get the most expensive and the best part possible.

With the growing number of websites on the internet, it is now extremely easy to get your needed auto part online. Websites like eBay and Amazon often carry an extensive variety of parts for cars of all makes and models. If you are in San Diego or somewhere in California, the shipping is usually minimal from US based online stores. However, you need to make sure that the store offers warranty and refunds, as there are cases when the newly acquired part simply doesn’t fit your car. That’s why it is usually recommended to visit a local certified dealer who can help you out to find that perfect auto part for your vehicle.

After getting a jump in Balboa Park from some very nice tourists, hubby pulled out the blackberry and searched for auto parts…first headed to a nearby Napa to find it out of business. (I am always telling him to use yelp app instead! When will he listen??) Located this Kragen which was on the way to our hotel in Liberty Station area. Hubby went in to buy the battery and a wrench to undo the cables and they suggested he should change it there at the shop so he would not have to pay the “core charge” (thinly veiled gov’t tax!!!) that you pay when you do not exchange the old battery, nor would we have to make another trip back to the store with the old battery. Also loaned him the tools, which was good because there’s also this stupid clamp you have to undo which requires a wratchet with a long extention to reach it. And when he was all done, gave them the old battery and they sent him in back to wash up. All around nice and helpful.

I have taken my jeeps and Scion Xb there and they have helped me numerous times with various issues. It’s sometimes difficult to find an automotive place that you can trust. Look no further, these guys you can definitely trust. HIGHLY Recommended!

I was told by a NAPA store in Rolando that the NAPA in KM might have the parts. I tried my local PEP boys the salesman tried to charge my $12.40 for 2 rings I paid $4.50 when I corrected him. They were to thin. I tried the World auto in Lemon grove, no dice. He said try Home depot someone said they were the same, wrong. Anyway I went Sunday morning this store is well stocked and Alan was the most professional older man I have met in a long time no attitude just great and the parts were under $4.00! Where to buy auto parts for less

When you need to buy auto parts, and want to save as much money as possible, there are a few things you can do to maximize your chances of saving money. Anyone can go to a local retail store and pay full price for a brand new part, but not everyone can afford to do that. If you have an older model car you are trying to keep running, new parts are usually not worth the expense. For those people who have cars as a hobby, saving money can extend the dollars set aside for a car.

The first step is to look for a local junkyard that sells auto parts. Not every community has one, but if you are lucky, you will be living in a location that has one nearby. These types of auto junkyards will vary in what they have to offer, but most of them will let you browse through their inventory. This consists of a graveyard of wrecked cars, most of them will never be restored and are only good for parts. When there is nothing left to salvage, what is left is recycled for its scrap metal value.

For you it means a substantial cost savings on parts. Most junkyards will make you remove the part you are looking for yourself, so you will need to bring tools with you. Some of the more difficult parts to remove may already be removed ahead of time. Things such as alternators may already be removed and for sale. In fact, some auto junkyards will have auto parts that have been remove and rebuilt. This includes the entire engine.

Keep in mind that there are plenty of non-mechanical parts available. Things such as hoods, mirrors, seats, even gas caps can be bought. All of these parts can be obtained at a lower cost than at a local auto parts store. The one drawback to this is that a junkyard may not have what you are looking for and buying parts this way is more time consuming.
